The following blog post provides an overview of Spectric’s Summer Intern Program, including how interns are selected, how they are supported by managers and technical mentors, and how they contribute to real engineering work across the company. Intern projects are scoped to provide meaningful technical experience while supporting Spectric’s broader development efforts, including software, RF systems, data analysis, AI-enabled tools, integration, and prototyping.

Meet the Next Generation of Spectricians


At Spectric Labs, we’re always thinking about the future: our technology, our mission, and most importantly, our people. Developing the next generation of Spectricians is a huge part of that mission, which is why our internship program means so much to us.

Every summer, we welcome students who are eager to learn, excited to solve hard problems, and ready to contribute to real-world engineering challenges. And this year, we’re thrilled to welcome six new interns to the team!



2026 Spectric Intern Class


This year’s class comes from a mix of universities and backgrounds, but they all stood out for the same reasons: curiosity, technical foundation, and potential.


Some interns found us through online applications, while the majority connected and were hired with Spectric through university recruiting and career fairs. Together, they represent a strong mix of software and electrical engineering talent:



Where Do Interns Fit at Spectric?


One of Spectric’s core values is People First, and the internship program is one of the clearest ways we put that into practice.


We select interns based on technical foundation, problem-solving ability, curiosity, and growth potential. Academic year matters less than readiness to contribute, learn quickly, and engage with real engineering work.


Each intern is paired with both an Engineering Manager and a Technical Mentor. That structure gives interns support in their day-to-day assignments while also helping them understand how their work fits into broader systems, customer needs, and mission outcomes.


The goal is not to create a classroom exercise. The goal is to give interns practical experience on work that reflects the same engineering environment our full-time teams operate in.


What Do Interns Work On?


Intern projects at Spectric are tied to real engineering needs. Some are connected to active internal development efforts, while others support prototype maturation, analysis workflows, or technical exploration that helps the company answer practical engineering questions.


This year’s intern projects span RF sensing, communications, AI-enabled engineering tools, system integration, data analysis, and early-stage prototyping. The work is intentionally scoped for interns, but it is not disconnected from the company’s mission. Interns are contributing to pieces of larger systems, learning how technical decisions affect real capabilities, and working alongside engineers who are building for operational environments.


Some projects focus on RF sensing and mission system development. Interns supporting this work are exposed to the relationship between hardware, signal processing, software control, and operator workflows. These projects help them understand how a sensor capability moves from an engineering concept toward something that can be tested, integrated, and improved.


Other projects focus on communications and system integration. Interns are helping explore how prototype communications capabilities can move from benchtop demonstrations toward more portable, field-relevant configurations. That kind of work requires practical engineering judgment around power, connectivity, RF interfaces, software control, and system usability.


Several projects also focus on AI and data-driven engineering. Interns are exploring how AI-enabled tools can support developer workflows, help engineers understand system behavior, and improve the way technical teams interact with logs, data, and analysis products. These efforts are not about using AI for its own sake. They are about evaluating where automation can reduce friction, improve insight, and help engineers move faster with better information.


Other intern efforts are more exploratory by design. These projects may begin as investigations, prototypes, or focused experiments, but they still help answer useful engineering questions. A well-scoped intern project can help the team evaluate an approach, identify tradeoffs, test assumptions, or determine whether a concept is worth further investment. That work has value even when the result is not a finished product, because it helps Spectric understand what works, what does not, and where a technical idea may fit into future development.


Across all of these projects, the goal is the same: give interns meaningful work that helps them grow while contributing to problems both Spectric and our customers care about. Interns are not expected to own major systems. They are expected to learn quickly, ask good questions, and contribute to pieces of systems that matter.


How Do We Select Interns?


Spectric’s internship selection process is intentionally thorough. We look for candidates who can think critically, communicate honestly about what they know, and show the curiosity needed to learn quickly.


For the 2026 class, Spectric conducted phone screens and in-person interviews before selecting the final six interns. The interview process included both technical and behavioral conversations, with an emphasis on how candidates approach unfamiliar problems, explain their thinking, and respond to feedback.


We do not expect interns to know everything before they arrive. We care more about whether they can reason through problems, ask good questions, validate assumptions, and grow alongside the team.



Why Does It Matter?


The internship pipeline is one of the most effective ways Spectric builds our team.


It allows us to invest early in technically curious people, give them meaningful experience, and help them understand what engineering looks like in a mission-focused environment. It also gives Spectric a steady path to develop future full-time employees who already understand our culture, our technical standards, and the types of problems we care about solving.


For a small company, that matters. Every hire has an impact. The internship program helps us identify people who can grow with the company and contribute to the work over time.

Spectric’s 2026 intern class represents more than a summer program. It represents our continued investment in people, technical growth, and the next generation of engineers who will help shape the company’s future.
